Project Assessment & Feasibility
Early-phase assessment done right: markets, incentives, technology selection, capex/opex estimates, site selection, and economic sensitivities — the groundwork that decides whether a project deserves to exist.
Renewable Energy Consulting & Development · Colorado
Megginson & Associates helps developers, investors, and operators assess, certify, and deliver renewable energy projects — led by a former ChevronTexaco general manager with more than four decades in the industry.

What we do
From the first feasibility question to a successful startup, we bring the technical judgment, industry network, and development discipline that complex energy projects demand.
Early-phase assessment done right: markets, incentives, technology selection, capex/opex estimates, site selection, and economic sensitivities — the groundwork that decides whether a project deserves to exist.
Deep expertise in converting biomass into clean electricity, green gasoline and diesel, renewable natural gas, and green hydrogen — including torrefaction, whose black pellets can run up to 100% in coal-fired boilers.
Third-party certification of biomass and scoring of carbon impacts by qualified experts — the independent verification that gives projects, investors, and regulators confidence.
Hands-on liquefied natural gas project experience — from the Jamaica LNG import project to the Magnolia LNG export project in Lake Charles, Louisiana — for a fuel that anchors the clean-energy transition.
The energy industry's accepted framework for capital projects: phase-by-phase discipline that aligns activities and budgets with each stage, improving decisions and the odds of success.
Four decades of relationships across the energy industry let us assemble a complete team — every requisite skill-set — so clients have the best opportunity for success in their projects.
How we work
Most of a project's value is created in its earliest phases — through disciplined, creative definition of the project and rigorous assessment of the alternatives. Our process is built around that truth.
Value identification and alternatives assessment: markets, incentives, technology, sites, and economics — tested before serious capital is committed.
Project definition, carbon-intensity scoring, third-party biomass certification, and assembly of the full expert team each gate decision requires.
Guidance through development into successful startup and operations — the phases where early discipline pays for itself many times over.
Selected work
Recent and notable assignments across LNG, bioenergy, and advanced fuel development — in the U.S. and internationally.
Liquefied natural gas import project bringing cleaner fuel to Jamaica's power sector.
LNG export project located in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on the U.S. Gulf Coast.
Recent assignment focused on clean, affordable biofuels for domestic U.S. markets.
Energy development projects including the Coalworks Oaklands North CTL project.
The principal
Over 40 years of proven experience in leadership positions on domestic and international energy projects — including development of several large-scale international projects for two of the oil majors, Chevron and Texaco.
Mr. Megginson left ChevronTexaco in 2003 as General Manager of Project Commercialization for Chevron Worldwide Power & Gasification and established Megginson & Associates the same year. Since then he has assisted clients from initial feasibility analysis through the later development of domestic and international energy projects.
